Mass Confusion

So it looks like my back up deck for the UK nationals is going to be F4. Its a great deck but I’d rather play something more original. What I need is a deck that can beat F4 and handle Ahmed as well as wild vomit. The problem is I’m meant to be playing in a clix event this weekend to and my deck making thoughts are being clouded.

The main issue I have with F4 is its lack of hidden hate - I don’t really want to splash 4 drop wolverine because I want mobilize to be as efficient as it can be and I don’t really want to team-up. On top of this lack of this they also have no good way of dealing with troublesome equipment cards.

Titans, my first ever Vs deck, also suffers from a lack of ways to deal with hidden characters I’d love the chance to pilot them again but without press the attack or finishing move I’m not sure they’d be that competitive. Perhaps the Titans could make an appearance alongside Darkseid…

A day off work.

I’ve been working on some more substantial posts today but they are not yet complete so I thought I’d just post a quick update. I played a couple of BYOS games against Ty today in preparation for the nationals. My F4 deck did pretty well but I still think it and my opponents X-men decks need some “tuning”.

I also played a a game against his F4 with my legionaries/outsiders (not BYOS) and we learnt something interesting sometimes invisible woman is a better drop against a weenie swarm than thing, especially if F4 have the initiative. IW takes down Dr light and you stun a couple of other weenies before discarding to neutralize almost all their characters. Then on 8 after their recruit then you play thing and swing directly for 32+ damage…

Yeah, that hurt…

UK Nationals

So we are a little over one month away from the UK nationals (5th April 200 8) and I haven’t even really started deck building yet. This is currently not an official UDE event but rumours abound of a trophy being supplied and I know a number of outstanding Britons are supplying extra prizes too.

It is a pretty exciting for us at House of Heroes because with such a new (and thriving) player base there are very few of us who have competed on anything bigger than a local level before. Ty, the store owner, has suggested that we club together for a minibus so it looks like a great road trip awaits us. I’ll be sure to take my camera and I’ll try my best to get some good coverage of the event here.

But what deck to play? Doom, F4, Check-Villains, Titans, it will probably be something of my own concoction.

Last Thursday…

This was meant to go up last week ooops…

Videos and Decks.

Sorry I haven’t written anything in quite a while. But make sure you check out my video thoughts over at pyrahmancy on youtube: Pyramancy II

I thought it would be an idea to actually put some thoughts down in writing for once.

I have been trying to work out the best way to use my X-men assembles for a while now. Having 4 AoA wolverines this looks like a good match but unfortunately I don’t have any of Wolvies legendry cards from MVL and as you can’t get hold of them at all right now this idea has been put on hold. (If you want to trade me some bezerker rages check out my trade thread here).

So I am now torn between the Morlocks team up - which brings with it evasion and a “draw a card” team-up - and Revenge Squad team up - who have more ways to search for assemble and get addition benifits for all the ongoings I’ll have out, plus 5 drop Lex is best friends with 4 drop Wolvie… As you can probably tell, this deck is still in the proto planning stage so I don’t really have a list to put up.

A deck I am closer to completion on is my Darkseid Legends Deck. As it stands it looks a little like this.

Characters (26)
4 x Speed Queen
2 x Desaad
4 x Dark Firestorm
2 x Lashina
4 x Darkseid, Apokoliptian Oppressor
3 x Darkseid, Destroyer of Life
1 x Darkseid, 8th Century
2 x Darkseid, Evil Reborn
1 x Darkseid, The Omega
2 x Darkseid, Apokolips Now
1 x Darkseid, Nemesis

Plot Twists (25)
1 x Ancient evils
4 x All Hail Darkseid!
4 x Lord of Apokolips
4 x Created from Hate
4 x Mobilize
4 x No Match for Darkseid
4 x Omega Effect

Locations (6)
2 x 31st Century Apokolips
4 x Ancient Throne

Equipment (3)
3 x Ego Gem

Speed queen with ego gem is a pretty good start to any stall strategy but unfortunately it isn’t massively likely to happen. I’m still not sure about this build I would like to fit in against all odds, maybe it would be better than All hail? I think it needs some serious play testing. I might tweak this to be more focussed on multiplayer games (which are becoming more frequent at hoh).

Your imput/advice is as always appriciated…

Whatever happened to the Doubles Tourney?

I know I said I’d be sure to inform you about what happen at our doubles tournament but its been a while and I’ve not posted anything. Bad Dave!

Well thats not entirely true I did post some stuff but its all on our local games club forum. I probably won’t be doing a write up for this tourney but if you want to check our thoughts on the format check out our forum at:

(House of heroes online store has a sale on at the moment too so don’t forget to that check out too.)

Random Punks

Some more stuff about random punks.

Abstinance

So its the end of the second day of lent today and so far its going alright. Me and my wife have decided to give up meat this year (although we are still allowed fish). Although we are missing it we have been inspired to try new foods and cook new meals for ourselves - as a wise man once told me (or at least Mark Rosewater once wrote in an article that I read)  limitations aid and inspire creativity they don’t stifle it.

In a similar way Random Punks imposes a limit (by removing rares) but offers a new opportunity for deck ideas. Next Friday (15th Feb) the Loughborough games club will be holding its second constructed Vs. tournament and if you hadn’t guessed I’ve got my creative juices flowing and half finished decks are beginning to clutter up my home. I’ve been slightly distracted by the heroclix previews appearing over the past week but I think the deck that I’m favoring at the moment is a rehash of my old inmates deck.

The list currently looks something like:

32 Characters:
3 x Mad Hatter, Mad as a Hatter
3 x Amadeus Arkham, Architect of Insanity
4 x K.G. Beast
4 x Crime Doctor, Bradford Thorne
4 x Charxes
2 x Two-Face, Jekyll and Hyde
4 x Hush (DCX)
2 x Poison Ivy, Kiss of Death
1 x Matt Hagen Clayface, Mud Pack
2 x Scarecrow, Fearmonger
1 x Sondra Fuller , Mud Pack
1 x Bane, The Man Who Broke the Bat
1 x Killer Croc, Cannibal

20 Plot Twists:
4 x Glass Jaw
4 x Fear and Confusion
4 x Usual Suspects
4 x Kidnapping
4 x Nasty Suprise

8 Locations:
4 x Slaughter Swamp
1 x Arkham Asylum
1 x Blackgate Prison, Maximum Security
1 x No Man’s Land
1 x Soul World

The main aim is to use Charaxes and Hush along with the various exhaustion effects backed up by free madhatters and kidnapping to clear the opponents board. With the exhaust tech Amadeus should be able to search out the locations you need and Ivy is there to teck against evading 2 drops (especially tarbaby). The deck need a lot of testing an any input would be appreciated.

Another possibility is Good guys redux:

Characters 27:
4 x Ted Kord
2 x Sue Dibny
4 x Booster Gold
2 x Conner Hawk
4 x Shayera Thal
2 x Hawk Girl
4 x Hakman (+3 atk)
1 x Hawkman (+1def)
2 x John Henry
2 x Batman

Plot Twists 8:
4 x Magnificent 7
4 x Uni Power

Locations 14:
3 x Dr. Fates Tower
3 x New Baxter Building
4 x Hall of Justice
4 x Soul World

Equipment 11:
2 x Amulet of Nabu
2 x Cloak of Nabu
2 x Helm of Nabu
4 x Nth Metal
1 x Mind Gem

Typical power-up fate-naughtiness tricks.

There are may other proto-decks around the house but nothing that warrants a complete list yet…

January’s Silver Age Tourney

This is a quick video I made of me on the morning before the tournament…

Depression and excitement

What a shock start to the week!

When I fist saw Knights Tail I knew I was going to love it from the opening scene when the “common folk” started beating out We Will Rock You on the stalls. I loved many of Heath’s films and it’s a great shame that I only have one more to look forward too.

On a more positive note though the Loughborough Games club is running a doubles tornament this thursday - this is an interesting idea we are experimenting with. Players form teams of two and each team gets 8 boosters with which to build two sealed decks. Games will also be played team Vs team with a shared endurance total. I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes.
