Friday

Testing for BYOS went well on Friday. My build of Fantastic Four won all four rounds to take me to first place (out of 10 players). Lord of Limbo came down for the event and although we didn’t meet in the tournament we did play a couple of casual games and his deck looks pretty good. Unfortunately he ran into some problems on the way home which you can read about here:

Random Punks

But thankfully he is okay!

Now onto the matches:

The first round was a close fought battle Vs the Hellfire Club, Matt had a powerful deck, but Invisible Woman’s reinforcement saved me enough breakthrough early in the game for Human torch’s direct burn to win the game for me on turn 7 Despite the fact my opponent recovered his 16/16 6 drop after I’d had thing take him down.

The second round was a little more one sided. My opponent was playing DCL secret society but missed his one and two drop and was forced to play Floronic Man (rather than Ivy) on three. His early played Forced Conscriptions only managed to drop plot twists into his KO’d pile. The final nails in the coffin were when on my opponents initiative turn 5 I managed to bounce black manta’s attack into thing with a family of 4 and some power ups,  leaving Felix Faust unable to do anthing except feel Thing’s wrath and the attacking Mr. F and invisible woman to the face. When the only 6 drop my opponent could pull out on 6 was Deathstroke I was able to do around 40 damage leaving him on -29 if I remember correctly. This game could have been a lot closer but my opponent seemed only able to mill plot twists.

My third game was against Derek’s (MOR) [New] Brotherhood deck I knew this deck could dish out a lot of damage but thankfully I hit invisible woman on 3 and a suited Mr. F (11 def) the turn after. When Derek started KO’ing/not playing resources and I finishing moved his Sabretooth I knew I was in control despite being 20ish endurance behind. My big numbers and combat pumps carried me through for a turn 6 victory.

The fourth game was against another great deck (MVL) Marvel Knights. Big defense don’t cause your opponent to many problems when Cloak ships your guys off to the hidden area. I can’t remember the exact details of this game because we played a friendly straight after the main game but I know I switched from my usual Luke/IW/Mr.F/Thing/Torch curve to Mr.F/IW/Torch/Thing/Mr.F.  for the main game so I was able to deal with a hidden 2 drop Punisher who had been equipped with an M60, which made him quite a threat (both to my endurance and board presence).

With 8 tutors I managed to hit Invisible woman in every game I played but most of my opponents had no way to deal with her – I think I need to test against a deck that packs hidden hate (or at least reign or terror/Terra/Blackheart).
